Garp Sessions, founded in 2019 by artist Ayşe İdil İdil and curator Deniz Kırkalı, is a 10-day residency program that brings together international artists, thinkers, and researchers in Babakale, a fishing village in the North Aegean Turkey.

Each year, it takes place with invited participants around a theme determined by two invited facilitators, one local and one international. The program creates encounters among participants within the local context and explores ways of working outside existing institutional models and on the periphery. It prioritizes learning from each other through teaching presentations, workshops, readings, and communal meals. The program offers participants a space for collaborative thinking. While the residency itself does not focus on an immediate output, Garp Sessions values collaborative production amongst and beyond its community, working with performances and publications as platforms which create space for dialogue.
